FRIDE is a think tank based in Madrid that aims to provide the best and most innovative thinking on Europe’s role in the international arena. It strives to break new ground in its core research interests of peace and security, human rights, democracy promotion, and development and humanitarian aid, and mould debate in governmental and non-governmental bodies through rigorous analysis, rooted in the values of justice, equality and democracy.
FRIDE seeks to provide fresh and innovative thinking on Europe’s role on the international stage. As a prominent European think tank, FRIDE benefits from political independence, diversity of views and the intellectual background of its international staff.

Since its establishment in 1999, FRIDE has organised or participated in the creation and development of various projects that reinforce not only FRIDE’s commitment to debate and analysis, but also to progressive action thinking.
Foreign Policy Spanish Edition
Foreign Policy Spanish Edition, launched in February 2004, publishes, every two months, part of the English edition translated as well as material exclusive to the Spanish edition. The magazine addresses itself not only to experts, but also to all readers of Spanish interested in world affairs.
Toledo International Centre for Peace
FRIDE, together with the Ortega and Gasset Foundation, has established the Toledo International Centre for Peace (CITpax). The Centre has as its objective to contribute to the prevention and resolution of current and potential violent conflicts, and peace consolidation, within the framework of human rights and democratic values.
Club de Madrid
The Club of Madrid is an independent organisation dedicated to strengthening democracy around the world by drawing on the unique experience and resources of its members - democratic former heads of state and government.
The Club of Madrid is supported institutionally by FRIDE and the Gorbachev Foundation of North America, and its President is Ricardo Lagos, former President of Chile.
Project of the University of the Middle East (UME)
The Project of the University of the Middle East (UME), was founded in Boston in 1997 with the objective of creating an institution that cultivates tolerance, dialogue, regional cooperation and peace through education. Since FRIDE’s inception, it has supported the UME project and its establishment in Spain.
